In today’s digital age, reliable internet access is more than a convenience — it’s a lifeline for online learning, remote work, telehealth, and staying connected. Yet, many people on Prince Edward Island still face barriers to accessing the internet, a resource that many of us take for granted.
To help bridge this gap, the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre Foundation is launching a fundraising campaign to raise $50,000 in order to provide portable, mobile Wifi Hotspots that can be borrowed from the library. This Wifi Hotspot Lending Program is a way to help improve internet access for members our community.

What are Wifi Hotspots?
A Wifi hotspot is a portable internet access device that allows users to connect their phones, tablets, computers, and other devices to the internet. Since these devices are mobile, individuals can use hotspots to access the Internet while on the go.
How will my donation support this program?
100% of the donations received towards the Wifi Hotspot Lending Program will go towards funding the hardware and monthly internet connectivity costs associated with the devices.
Examples of costs include:
1) The purchase of mobile internet devices: These devices can range between $150 – $300 depending on the hotspot model
2) Monthly internet connectivity plans: Plans can vary depending on their download speed. It is around $60.00 per month per device for 50GB of data
Are other public libraries offering these devices?
Yes! Many public libraries throughout Canada and the United States offer mobile hotspot lending programs to help close the digital divide within their communities and provide equitable Internet access for all, regardless of income or location.
